Parish Vitality

The role of the Parish Vitality Ministry is to nurture the social and temporal needs of the Parish as well as to improve continuously intentional communication through different media. The goal is to address the vitality of parish members, expressed through a program of activities aimed at the youngest through to the eldest. The desired outcome is sustained lifelong parish fellowship. The vitality of the parish is what attracts individuals and families to experience St. Basils.

Our Caring Ministers

Ministering to our Parishioners in Need

Prayer Shawl Ministry

A shawl—hand-knit or crocheted by members of our ministry—is offered as a "hug from God" to those seeking comfort or celebrating a joyous milestone, such as a Baptism. These shawls symbolize God’s all-embracing love and the collective prayers of the St. Basil’s community. In addition to full-sized shawls, our members craft small white stoles adorned with a yellow cross. During the Rite of Baptism, Father places this garment upon the newly baptized as a beautiful sign of their new life in Christ.

Knights of Columbus

This fraternal organization of Catholic men embraces service to the Church, community, and youth.  Knights organize parish activities, raise funds for charity and offer support to one another.  The fundamental principles of the Knights are charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. The Knights are here at St Basil’s to support the needs of the parish under the direction of our Pastor. We are always looking at ways to grow spiritually, one of the core parts of being Knights.  Along with hosting social functions such as Parish Brunches, as well as  the annual Christmas Dinner and St Patrick’s Day celebrations, the Knights are ready and available to assist any other organization in the Parish with their activities.

Community Life Activities

Coordinates and promotes fellowship through community-building activities such as parish social functions and other community-building events, including organizing special receptions.  The group manages the kitchen facilities and relies heavily on an army of volunteers for every event.

Coffee Sundays

For over twenty-five years, Coffee Sundays have been a staple at St. Basil's, starting under the request of Fr. Bosco Wong. It began as a once-a-month occasion, moved to a weekly occurrence at the behest of the parishioners, and now includes the summer months. It is a time for parishioners to mingle after the Mass and to get to know one another. It provides an opportunity for new members of the parish to be welcomed and to feel comfortable in their new surroundings. Coffee Sundays bring people together and help build a strong sense of community.

St Basil's Parish Bridge Club

St Basil’s BRIDGE CLUB is a welcoming group of seniors that meets weekly, from September to June.  Parishioners and friends play the game of Bridge and enjoy a sense of community and friendship, from 1:00-3:30pm, on Wednesday afternoons.  All are welcome to join this group.  The club is self-funded.  Currently, there are 28 members who pay $20 for a yearly membership. The club hosts a Christmas and June luncheon and on those occasions a welcome is extended to our pastor and to members of the parish support staff.

Club members take turns providing refreshments at the weekly gatherings. Bridge supplies are purchased from the fees. Surplus monies are used for donations for masses of remembrance for deceased members, and small, token donations are made to our pastor and caretaker once or twice a year. Surplus money from fees is carried over to the new year. If we ever have a significant surplus, we plan to make a donation to support a parish initiative.

The Green Team

The GREEN TEAM started in 2017 and has been working to encourage all things  environmental and caring for creation ever since.   The focus of the team is on three aspects - SPIRITUALITY -EDUCATION- ACTION.  For example  -   we have partnered with the Kateri Ministry during the Season of Creation by holding an outdoor Mass on their land, have presented evenings on Creation Spirituality, have brought in guest speakers to talk on environmental issues and hold an annual Clean Up St Basil's near Earth Day.

Meetings are held about once a month to plan events and all are welcome.   Please see the Bulletin for a contact person.
