Dear Parishioners,
I have spent the last six years at St. Elizabeth Parish, just down the road for St. Basil's. Being at St. Elizabeth was my first experience of being a pastor. The parish community there was patient with me as I learned what being a pastor entails. I will remember fondly my time with them. They were gentle and kind teachers!
Now that I am making my transition to St. Basil's, I want you to know that I am enthusiastically looking forward to being with you and getting to know all of you! Already, I have had the chance to
meet some of you and I am very much encouraged.
The scriptures this weekend focus on bread. The first reading recounts the feeding of the Israelites in the desert with the “bread from heaven” that they called “manna.” The psalm continues to reflect on that heavenly gift. In the Gospel, Jesus calls himself the bread that came down from heaven, the bread of life. What the readings teach us is that God provides for us and if we take the time to reflect on our lives, we will see that God’s providence is all around us. Divine providence, says Pope Francis, is one of the most comforting truths. I am also comforted by this truth. God will provide all that we need as we adjust to this adventurous time of transition for the community of St. Basil's. I am looking forward to it!
May God continue to bless and provide for us all!
