This role is normally filled by one of the members in their final (third) year on the Pastoral Council.
The chairperson is responsible for preparing meeting agendas in consultation with the Pastor and other members of the Council. The incumbant chairs all meetings; assists the Pastor in providing leadership, support and encouragement to other members of the Council.
In collaboration with the Pastor, the chairperson ensures that the spirit and intent of the parish vision and mission are pursued and diocesan guidelines are followed.
The Pastoral Council is the "Hub" of Parish leadership.
The Pastoral Council’s role is to be the central leadership and planning body of the parish as a whole. Its purpose is to foster participation and engagement of all parishioners in parish life.
The Pastoral Council (PC) looks for ways to link parishioners who attend different Masses; it listens and responds to concerns of parishioners and set themes and priorities for each year for the parish.
The PC call for ministries to define their mandate, their plans for renewal of members, their plan to implement the theme and priorities set out by PC and other activities.
Most importantly, the Pastoral Council actively fosters intentional communication and collaboration across the parish; and ensures that ministries communicate their programs and activities to parishioners.
The PC consults on an annual basis with ministries concerning their plans; compiles a budget and maintain oversight of expenditures; and oversees the parish’s annual calendar of events and activities.
Finally, each year, the Pastoral Council adopts a theme around which the entire parish community can rally their efforts.
The St Basil’s Pastoral Council is a consultative and colaborative body which coordinates with the Parish Priest, his staff and the committees and teams of the four Parish Ministry clusters. It is responsible for the planning and implementation of the objectives of the Parish.
The Pastoral Council is called upon to share with the Pastor the building up of the body of Christ and is concerned with the overall welfare of the parish family. It addresses all aspects of parish life and is responsible for liaising and coordinating with various ministries and committees of the parish. It is the hub of day-to-day operations entrusted and implementated to Parish staff, and the committees of the four Ministry clusters.
Ministry committees report to Pastoral Council as a whole. Their reports go to all members of PC, rather than to a specific PC member. Committees prepare a budget with goals and objectives.
Leaders of the parish act collaboratively, find ways to work together more effectively and develop an understanding of the wide range of activities across the four St. Basil’s ministries. Ministries define their mandate, their plans for recruitment of members, their plan to implement the theme and priorities set out by PC, as well as other activities they plan to undertake.
As envisioned in the recommendations of the 2017 Imagine St. Basil's report, ministries and their committees will ideally meet as a body 2 or 3 times a year.

Raised through the Imagine St. Basil's appreciative inquiry process of 2016-2017, the statement below describes the key underlying conditions that will enable parish leaders and members to move forward together and realize our ambitious dreams. It begins by remining us that parishioners are inspired by Pope Francis, and act as the hands and feet of Christ.
