The bell tower of St. Basil’s Church was built in 1960s and is cladded with wood slats. Every two pieces of wood slats are bolted at the top and bottom to a steel plate protruding from the tower frame. The wood slats, 680 pieces in total, are attached on the steel frame by bolts of ¼” diameter and small washers.
It was reported that a pair of slats fell off from the bell tower on May 2016. A site review for the fallen slats and the rest of the slats on the tower was conducted on May 15, 2016. It was observed that the slats on the tower are, in general, in bad condition.
