We need to raise $250,000 to complete the Accessibility and Hospitality Campaign. This includes the massive and necessary repair of the rectory roof – estimated at $150,000; nearly $70,000 in archdiocesan taxes (13% tax on all taxable revenue coming into the parish); and other necessary projects which we have been deferring. A lot has been impacted this past year by COVID-19. However, the generosity and thoughtfulness of St. Basil’s parishioners has not faltered, and we are still welcoming any contributions. You can use the special envelope for the Christmas exchange, or any white envelope. We will be continuing with the Christmas gifting and food hamper program this year, although the process will be a little different. The Carlington Community Chaplaincy is in need of a fridge in working order. The Chaplaincy is no longer getting food for the breakfast program from the Food Bank, so more cold storage space is needed to store yogurt and cheese to avoid having to travel more often to Wholesale Club to pick up food. This year, the Season of Creation is from September 1st to October 4th (the Feast of St. Francis). The theme this year is JUBILEE FOR THE EARTH and invites us to consider the integral relationship between the rest of the earth and ecological, economic, social and political ways of living. Shortly before midnight of the 31st, the Virtual Tulipathon 2020 broke its ambitious goal of $50,000. Click title of article to see more!
This year Multifaith Housing Initiative’s annual “Tulipathon” walk to raise money for subsidizing rents at MHI dwellings will be a little different. Participants are asked to do a 3 km. “Solo Stroll” or a “Hike at Home” rather than the usual gathering at Dow’s Lake to walk amid the tulips. Besides fundraising, the aim is to raise public awareness about the need in Ottawa for affordable and good quality housing for people on low income. Click title to see more...
