The role of the Parish Vitality Ministry is to nurture the social and temporal needs of the Parish as well as to improve continuously intentional communication through different media. The goal is to address the vitality of parish members, expressed through a program of activities aimed at the youngest through to the eldest. The desired outcome is sustained lifelong parish fellowship. The vitality of the parish is what attracts individuals and families to experience St. Basils.
The appreciative inquiry process, Imagine St. Basil's emphasized the need for vibrant and intentional parish community communications. The goal is to better inform parishioners and attract audiences across the geographic region surrounding St. Basil's parish.
There is now a Communications Committee whose page can be accessed by clicking here.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
A shawl, hand knitted by members of the ministry is offered like a hug from God to those needing comfort, celebrating a significant life event such as the birth of a baby, or embarking on a new beginning in their journey. It symbolizes God’s all embracing love surrounding the wearer as well as the prayers and support of our St. Basil’s community.
The members meet the first Monday of the month at 9.30 am to knit and to pray for the recipients of the prayer shawls.

Visiting Ministry
The members of this Ministry visit parishioners who are homebound, on a regular weekly basis. They bring Communion and with a short visit pray together and also share parish news and activities which helps those unable to get out to mass at the church still feel connected to the parish community.

Medex Ministry
The volunteer team attends the celebration of mass with the residents of Medex, a long term care residence three Tuesday mornings a month at 10.30 am. They help the residents in and out of the room, set up the alter for mass while taking a little time to chat and just be present to the residents.
The 4th Tuesday of the month another Medex volunteer goes to pray the rosary with the residents, also much appreciated.

The CWL is a national organization rooted in gospel values, calling its members to holiness through service to God’s people. The chapter meets monthly and engages in fundraising to support its charitable initiatives. Meetings address such areas as spiritual development, Christian family life and education. Their most important ministry at the parish is funeral receptions which are organized by the group and provided to bereaved families in the parish.
Outgoing CWL President, Marilyn Adair, congratulates incoming President Elizabeth Elliot.

This fraternal organization of Catholic men embraces service to the Church, community and youth. Knights organize parish activities, raise funds for charity and offer support to one another. The fundamental principles of the Knights are charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism. The Knights are here at St Basil’s to support the needs of the parish under the direction of our pastor. Along with hosting functions such as Parish Brunches, Spaghetti Dinners for our local grade school, and the annual St Patrick’s Day celebration, the Knights are ready and available to assist any other organization in the Parish with their activities. All the money raised goes directly to the Church.

These gatherings offer parishioners an opportunity to meet and get to know one another better. Members are part of a team of 3 or 4 people who organize and serve refreshments after the Sunday Masses.
What a successful year it has been for Coffee Sundays - lots of people staying and socializing after mass, and lots of volunteers willing to help. It really does aid in building church community, and it is an opportune time for new people to be welcomed and to get acquainted with other parishioners.
A special thank you to all the volunteers who help to make it possible, but especially those who are the "regulars": 4/5 of our 38 Coffee Sundays are handled by regular volunteers. Thanks to Tim Horton’s on Carling and Bridgehead for making this possible.

This is a group of women that get together in each other’s homes for fellowship and to play bridge. The group has been in existence at St Basil’s for more than 50 years. The membership over the years has been dwindling. New bridge players are always welcome. Each year with funds raised, the women make a donation back to the parish towards a special key initiative. The convenors are responsible for organizing the current year activities. These include setting up schedules of play, and organizing group events such as a memorial mass honouring the deceased members in November and the final banquet held in June.
