There is a fundraising requirement of $232,000 to meet the cost of the repairs.
Here, we put our mission statement into action, empowered by the Spirit just as we are challenged and nourished by the Word of God. Inside these walls, we discern together the way of Jesus, we support and nurture one another in love. From inside this place we demonstrate how we are compassionately committed to the poor and oppressed as we harness the wealth of our gifts.
Under this dome, we joyfully celebrate as we follow the path of our rich heritage built by laity and Basilians.
We journey in hope.
The fundraising campaign for accessibility and hospitality improvements to the Church is now in full swing.
These important renovations and improvements can strengthen the fabric of our St. Basil’s community and make our parish a more welcoming place. Currently, some members of our community cannot be confident of getting down to the parish hall or up into the church safely, which limits the accessibility and hospitality of our parish. Our goal for St. Basil’s is to provide an environment that truly welcomes everyone and respects each individual’s needs.
We have previously looked after the foundational elements of our beautiful building, which were our first priority. We must now turn our attention to accessibility and comfort elements of our church.
This current fundraising campaign is necessary to repair or replace the roofing, heating and the unreliable lifting device -- all critical components for the day-to-day functioning of the parish.
St. Basil's Finance Council hired a consultant to prepare a report on the accessibility of our building based on current standards. The consultant report -- which has been shared with parishioners -- identified additional areas where accessibility needs to be addressed.
But to make this happen, we need your help. The total cost for these repairs is $322,000. To date, we have covered the purchase of the new boiler from Restored Foundations funds and previous reserves. This leaves the parish with a fundraising requirement of $232,000
We require a significant fundraising effort from all parishioners in order to complete these much-needed repairs. Please help us meet the parish’s goal in this very important fundraising campaign.
The parish will launch its 60th anniversary celebrations in January 2020. Now is the time to complete these important renovations to ensure that our parish will continue to be welcoming for decades into the future.
There are special envelopes in the back of the church for your donations, or you can write “Accessibility fundraising” on a plain envelope. Donations can also be made online through the St. Basil’s website under the “How We Do Things” tab, which directs you to the “Canada Helps” website for donations. https://stbasilsparish.ca/donate-on-line
These important fixes are just the first steps in the process. The final results will be several noticeable changes in the fabric of our church -- and a more welcoming and accessible parish.
Thank you very much for your generosity.
